Playback & Output

vTask features two main viewers for managing media playback and output:

Viewers

Left Viewer (Preview/Trimmer)

  • Used to preview and trim audio and video files in the playlist.
  • Displays image files.

To load a media into the trimmer:

  1. Select the desired item in the playlist.
  2. A bright orange box with a play icon appears on the left side of the selected row.
  3. Click this area to load the clip into the previewer and start playback automatically.

Trimming the media:

  • The selected range is shown as a brown rectangle across the video timeline.
  • Drag near the start of the selector to adjust the in point.
  • Drag near the end to set the out point.
  • Use the yellow circles at the start and end of the timeline to cue in and out while the media is playing.
  • Drag the playhead to scrub through the media.

Adjusting the in and out points:

  • Updates the item's timing and duration in the playlist.
  • Automatically shifts the start times for subsequent items.

Note: When trimming, the item must remain selected in the playlist; otherwise, changes will not take effect.

Right Viewer (Output Playback)

  • Shows the live playback of the current playlist, reflecting all edits, Kente Graphics and transitions.
  • This viewer is the source for all output and streaming options.
  • You can also view other NDI streams available on your local network.

  • Right-click the viewer to open a context menu listing all detected NDI outputs.

  • Select an output to display its stream in the viewer.

  • The viewer includes a control panel with five options:

  • Start button: Begins playback of the playlist and switches the viewer to display the selected output
  • Retime button: Restarts the playlist with the current date and time.
  • If the Selection checkbox is checked, playback starts from the selected item, marking previous items as skipped.
  • vT-Viewer button: Opens a separate window showing the current NDI stream in full screen.

vTask supports:

  • NDI output for local network devices
  • API output for vMix integrations
  • Preview output for testing within vTask
  • RTMP streaming to platforms like YouTube, Facebook

You can switch between output modes using the buttons at the bottom left corner of the application. Each button corresponds to a different output type, allowing you to quickly toggle between NDI, API, Preview or RTMP streaming as needed.

NDI Output

Enables NDI streaming through the local network, allowing other devices to receive and display the live output from vTask in real time. If the volume of the NDI output is low, you can increase it by clicking the Settings button at the top right corner of the application, selecting the Output tab, and adjusting the NDI Audio Gain dialer.

API Output

Enables integration with vMix via its API, allowing vTask to send commands for playback control and other actions. To use this output mode, you must first connect to your vMix instance by entering its IP address and port in the address field at the top left corner of the application and clicking the Connect button. Once connected, you can trigger video playback, manage playlist items, and perform various automation tasks directly in vMix from vTask Playlist.

Preview Output

Plays content directly in the vTask output viewer. This mode is useful for testing playback or for radio streaming when you only need audio output from your device.

RTMP Streaming

This mode streams your playlist including Kente Graphics over RTMP to platforms like YouTube or Facebook. RTMP streaming automatically enables NDI output, as both outputs currently share the same rendering context. The team is working to allow independent output selection in future updates.

Note:

Whenever you switch an output mode, playback will stop and you must start the playlist again to resume output.
